Egyptian authorities are currently investigating a video that was posted online by a Danish photographer that appears to show he and a woman scaling, and then posing in a sexual position, on the Great Pyramid of Giza.
Andreas Hvid posted the video to YouTube and Facebook. He also posted a photograph of the pair naked on top of each other as if engaging in sexual relations on the structure.
Although initially claiming the footage was fake, Egyptian authorities referred the incident to the country’s Attorney General to investigate the video’s validity.
Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani told Egyptian newspaper “al-Ahram” that prosecutors were investigating how Mr. Hvid and his friend were able to scale the Pyramid of Khufu and “whether they really filmed an explicit pornographic video atop the pyramid.”
“The prosecution authorities will tell Egyptians how the two tourists were able to scale the Great Pyramid of Khufu, whether the video is real or fake, and negligent officials will be brought to justice,” El-Anany said. “The explicit video has sparked fury and outrage among Egyptians in general, and the officials affiliated with the Ministry of Antiquities in particular. I stress that scaling the pyramids is strictly forbidden.”
In an interview with Danish tabloid “Ekstrabladet,” Hvid claimed to have been stopped by guards on a previous attempt to climb the pyramid, before breaching a nearby fence in late November to scale the structure. He denied the pair had sex on top of the pyramid.
