Getting Ready For Disney+ Streaming Platform
Merry (early) Christmas, ya filthy animal! Disney will be remaking the classic “Home Alone” film along with other iconic movies like “Night at the Museum,” “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
In a conference call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company would be “reimagining” the 1990s Christmas classic film, which will be released on the company’s streaming service, Disney+, along with “Night at the Museum,” “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
Taking to Twitter to share his view on the announcement, Macaulay Culkin – whose iconic role as Kevin McCallister rin “Home Alone” saw him shoot to fame as a kid – posted a picture of what a modern-day remake might look like if he were to reprise his role.
Alongside a not-so-flattering photo of himself, the actor wrote: “This is what an updated Home Alone would actually look like.” Fans have been responding with mixed reactions and feelings about the reboot.
Back in March, Disney acquired most 21st Century Fox assets following a $71 billion deal, and part of that merger was several film franchises. Further details on how and when each of these films will be remade and who will be cast has not been revealed.
“We are also focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our… platforms,” Iger told investors, as reported by CNN.
Disney+, The Walt Disney Company’s upcoming and highly anticipated streaming service was announced back in April and will officially launch in North American in November. The service will be the exclusive home of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Animation, and Pixar works, and will cost $6.99 a month.
