Disney Funds Rebuilding Of Notre Dame After Fire
Notre Dame is more than just an iconic tourist destination. It’s a piece of history, a symbol of medieval Gothic architecture, and the inspiration behind of the most classic animated films.
Since Disney based one of their classic animation films “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” off of the famous Cathedral, Disney donated $5 million toward the rebuilding effort to recover from a devastating fire. Disney supports the Paris community as the EuroDisney theme park is only 20 miles from Paris.
So far, nearly $1 billion in pledges have already been collected.
“Notre-Dame is a beacon of hope and beauty that has defined the heart of Paris and the soul of France for centuries, inspiring awe and reverence for its art and architecture and for its enduring place in human history,” Disney chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger said. “The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbors in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece.”
“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is an American animated musical drama film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for Walt Disney Pictures. It was the 34th Disney animated feature film and the seventh animated film produced and released during the period called the Disney Renaissance. The film is based on the 1831 novel of the same name written by Victor Hugo, in which the plot centers on Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame, and his struggle to fit into society.
