Get ready to see some major changes at Disney’s Epcot.
Epcot — an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow — is currently undergoing a makeover, with Disney announcing two brand new features for park-goers to get excited about.
The first is what the company is temporarily calling the “play pavilion,” which is a dramatic transformation of the golden-domed Festival Center in Future World. The space previously housed the Wonders of Life attraction, which closed in 2007, and has since only been used for special events like the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.
According to Disney’s press release, the new pavilion promises a futuristic look, offering the experience of an “innovative, interactive city bursting with games and hands-on activities.”
Guests will also be able to interact with Disney characters in a way that’s “unlike anything ever seen before at Epcot,” the company stated.
Disney will also be redesigning the entrance to the theme park leading up to the iconic spherical Spaceship Earth, promising “sweeping green spaces and a newly reimagined fountain.”
The new developments have a deadline — Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary in October 2021. But before then, in 2020, Disney plans to open Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ride at the France pavilion in the World Showcase, along with a Beauty and the Beast sing-a-long. There will also be a new nighttime spectacular show, replacing the popular Illuminations: Reflections of Earth.
