New ‘Recess’ Will Be A Non-Profit Fan Film
Do you remember waking up to Saturday morning cartoons to hear the sweet sound of a ringing bell echoing through the hallways of a school? Yes, if you remember well, that was the sound of recess time, and more importantly, “Recess.”
Filmmakers Jerome Yoo, Kent Donguines and scriptwriter Zlatina Pacheva are bringing the 3rd Street Elementary school gang to life—but this time as teenagers. As part of a non-profit fan film of the classic Disney cartoon series (though not sanctioned by Disney), an independent production team from Vancouver shared that they wanted to make a live-action “Recess” but in a more relatable way. Based off the characters created by Paul Germain & Joe Ansolabehere, the movie will follow the original group of friends but as high schoolers who struggle with everyday teenage issues such as love, social media, and peer pressure.
The “Recess” live-action cast includes “Deadly Class” Benjamin Wadsworth as TJ, Sean Depner as Mikey, “The Order” Louriza Tronco as Spinelli, Lillian Doucet-Roche as Gretchen, Fritzy-Klevans Destine as Vince and Clive Holloway as Gus.
The film is currently in post-production and the production team is fundraising to support the project to finality. “Recess” is scheduled to be released online this coming August for free, and all proceeds will go towards the creation of the movie.
