The Marlins lost a big one on Sunday night.
They were heading into the ninth with a 4-1 lead over Tampa Bay and only needed three outs to close out the inning and end the game but their closer just wasn’t getting his way on the mound that night.
Tampa Bay’s batters showed their worth out in the field that day, forcing the Marlins pitcher to throw 40 pitches in his close out performance, handing them a win with a walk-off grand-slam.
A team that desperately needed to start racking up wins and fast.
When Don Mattingly, Marlins manager, called on Kyle Barraclough, he stated that he chose him to close out the game and send them back home with a win, he was positive that he made the right decision.
He stated after the game that he didn’t regret keeping his pitcher on the mound for as long as he did, simply because he knew that if things got bad in there, Kyle Barraclough could pitch his way back out, and all he needed were three outs.
Unfortunately for the Marlins, Kyle Barraclough allowed four runs and Tampa Bay’s very own Daniel Robertson to get a walk-off grand slam pushing them ahead to a 6-4 Tampa Bay victory.
