Thanksgiving Day is finally here! It’s a day when people across America wade through crowded highways and airports for the nostalgic satisfaction of gathering with family and sitting around a table to enjoy some pumpkin pie, turkey and more. But part of Thanksgiving day is also about the TV and movie specials.
Many families can agree that is there’s one thing other than the food and family aspect that make Thanksgiving special, it’s the classic holiday specials that play on TV. Some of them are so classic that they date back to when you were still just a child.
Probably the number one holiday special is “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” It is the tenth prime-time animated TV special that’s based upon the popular comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz. It was originally aired on the CBS network on Nov. 20, 1973 and continues to be aired every November in the United States.
“Planes, Trains and Automobiles” is another Thanksgiving classic. The film centers around Neal Page (played by Steve Martin) who is trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and children. However, his flight is rerouted to a distant city in Kansas because of a snowstorm, his sanity begins to strain as he is forced to find alternative ways of holiday travel to get home.
“The Simpsons” Thanksgiving marathon is another option because “The Simpsons” is one of the best-loved animated sitcoms of all time. Bart vs. Thanksgiving Season 2” is the only episode from any season that is entirely about Thanksgiving.
