Everyone hates the IRS, so Michael Bolton wrote them a love song

Wednesday is Tax Day in the United States, which means that countless Americans are currently freaking out and taking out their frustrations on the IRS. John Oliver would like to remind the country that, while no one likes the IRS, most people can agree that taxes are a necessary evil in the U.S. — and an organization should probably responsible for them.

“The fact is, blaming the IRS because you hate paying your taxes is like slapping the checkout clerk because the price of eggs has gone up,” he said on Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight.

So to help boost everyone’s faith in the IRS, Oliver enlisted a little help from Michael Bolton. At 13:20, the crooner comes in to perform a tender ballad, including romantic lyrics like “you’re the anus of our country.”
