Introducing the fashionable FLOTUS
First Lasy Biden is celebrating her new role in style wearing sentimental statement pieces that reflect her personality. In a recent interview, First Lady Biden revealed that her choices inauguration outfits were sentimental of her relationship with her husband.
FLOTUS revealed that she wore a white corsage on the evening of the inauguration because her husband President Joe Biden gives her a corsage of her favorite flower, white gardenias. President Biden started the tradition on Valentine’s Day and has continued onto the biggest day of their lives.
The First Lady wearing a corsage on inauguration day also follows a longstanding tradition in American history. Former First Lady Mamie Eisenhower wore a corsage on inauguration day in 1953 and Betty Ford followed the tradition 20 years later.
Another sentimental fashion statement was her elegant gown and ivory cashmere coat featuring embroidered flowers representing the official flowers of all 50 states. First Lady Biden’s inauguration evening outfit was designed by Gabriela Hearst that created the outfit entirely out of New York City assembled at the inhouse studio in the garment district.
Each flower required 2-4 hours to be embroidered individually and the lining features an embroidered Benjamin Franklin quote “Tell me and I forgot. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Gabriela Hearst used existing available fabrics and materials to minimize the impact on the environment.
The Gabriela Hearst design team carefully studied the careful placements and color selections for weeks to finalize the design for the embroidered coat. First Lady Biden is making a name for herself as First Lady of Fashion.
