David Jenkins, a former Olympic sprinter and founder of protein products brand NEXT Nutrition, is looking to marry the sparkling water and protein drink categories with a new invention: Fizzique.
Fizzique is a line of flavored sparkling protein water that contains 20 grams of whey protein. The line currently includes Strawberry Watermelon and Tropical Limon flavors, which contain 80 calories per 12 oz can and are lightly caffeinated. The line sells for $2.99 per can.
Consumers normally drink protein packed products to help them feel fuller longer or to help their muscles recover quickly, but for the most part, protein drinks don’t taste that good. That’s where Fizzique comes in. The drink is meant to be refreshing, helping consumers to quench their thirst while getting their protein fix.
The idea for the drink came to Jenkins when he combined a clear protein with sparkling water to create, in his words, a “very rudimentary drink” that was also very “promising.”
Fizzique launched last month and is available online via the company’s website, Amazon and in Florida specialty retailers. The protein drink brand has partnered with three Florida distributors and anticipates growing to more than 1,000 stores in the specialty channel within the next few months.
