Your Favorite ABC Friday Night Sitcom Is Coming Back
ABC Friday four comedies for the 2019-20 TV season and one of them is “Fresh Off the Boat” which will see a Season 6. While a lot of fans are happy about seeing the Huang family return to the small screen, one actress was less than thrilled.
Constance Wu said Saturday that she wrote “f—ing hell” after the renewal of her ABC show because the renewal will keep her from pursuing another project.
“Its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about,” Wu wrote on social media.
Since her post, she has received a lot of backlashes, with many people calling her out for being ungrateful and a diva. There has even been a growing controversy over what many regarded as Wu’s sense of ingratitude toward the show that had launched her career and been held up as a milestone for Asian American inclusion. In response, Wu issued a statement.
“I love FOTB,” Wu wrote. “I was temporarily upset yesterday not bc I hate the show but bc its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about. So my dismayed social media replies were more about that other project and not about FOTB. But I understand how that could feel interconnected and could get muddled.
“In general, I’ve always sought artistic challenge over comfort and ease,” Wu continued. “I was disappointed in not being able to do that other project — because that other project would have challenged me as an artist — that other project would have been really hard and not easy or pleasant at all.”
Amid all the controversy though, Wu’s next big-screen role will be in the crime comedy “Hustlers,” co-starring Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B.
