Harry Styles Turns Down Prince Eric Role In Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’

Despite all of the excitement and anticipation from fans that Harry Styles was offered the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid,” the actor-singer has turned down the offer to play the character.

According to reports, even though Styles is a fan of the project, he respectfully declined. In fact, on Tuesday, both AMC Theaters and Regal Cinema inaccurately tweeted that Styles had been cast in the role. Both theater chains later deleted the tweets.

Had Styles actually taken the role, he would star opposite actress and singer Halle Bailey, who was cast as Ariel.

Best known as a member of the British boy band One Direction, Styles made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.” He also recently screen-tested for the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming untitled biopic about the famous singer.

“The Little Mermaid” is being directed by Rob Marshall and is being produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. David Magee (who wrote the script for “Mary Poppins Returns”) is working on the script for the upcoming movie. The live-action remake will feature the 1989 animated classic’s original songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken and lyrics by Miranda.
