Massive Spolier Alert For ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Before you begin reading this article, be warned that there will be spoilers.
So you’ve seen “Avengers: Endgame” and was left with tears streaming down your face and a lot of burning questions. If you were closely watching, you might have noticed a very interesting scene involving the God of Mischief.
In their latest interview, the Russo Brothers dish the dirt on what happened to Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki after he escaped with the Space Stone.
If you have watched the previous movies, you will remember that Loki met his end at the start of “Avengers: Infinity War,” but if you’ve seen the previous movies, then you know full well that he can’t stay dead forever.
The Russo brothers and every single person at Marvel Studios swore that the characters who died in Infinity War – that is to say, the ones who didn’t evaporate after the Snap – would stay dead. But in the case of Loki, there’s a twist: time travel and alternate dimensions.
The Loki who died in Infinity War is still dead, but the Loki from the past – from the events of the first Avengers movie to be exact – is alive. In Endgame, he was able to escape capture by grabbing hold of the Space Stone and vanishing, and from there, fans don’t see him again for the rest of the movie. But one thing is clear: this Loki is alive.
In “Thor: The Dark World” Loki was imprisoned and grew as a character, and that arc continues into “Thor: Ragnarok,” where Loki and Thor grow even closer. But that was the version of Loki who got locked up on Asgard.
The Loki that escaped with the Space Stone didn’t go through that. Speaking with Business Insider, the Russos explained the concept of “branched realities.”
“Loki, when he teleports away with the [Space] Stone, would create his own timeline. It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Cap] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki. The minute that Loki does something as dramatic as take the Space Stone, he creates a branched reality,” the Russos said.
This explains why and how we will see more of Loki in future movies and in his own TV show.
