LONDON — Let’s be honest, Londoners don’t have the best reputation of the bunch. Between getting pushy on the tube during rush hour and not cracking a smile for passersby on the street, the capital’s inhabitants have few redeeming features. Or so it seemed.
Action Productions, a creative agency that aims to bring about positive social change, have created a video titled “Are Londoners Horrible?”. The two minute long experiment, which shows a group of actors going about daily activities and running into a spot of trouble, tests whether Londoners will lend a hand when they see a fellow resident in need.
Perhaps surprisingly, they all do. For the woman struggling to lift her suitcase up a flight of stairs in Shepherds Bush, the man asking to be woken up when the tube reaches Clapham Junction and the grocery shopper whose bags are knocked from her grip, there’s always a Londoner on hand to lend them some help. As a reward for their kindness, the helpful Londoners are met by an undercover a capella choir who just happen to have the perfect song for each occasion.
“We wanted to make a film that encouraged kindness because we feel these small acts give everyone a little lift during the day” Action Productions told Mashable.
“It’s not only great for those who receive the helping hand, but the person who does the kind act always leaves with a smile on their face too. It’s win-win for everybody!”
