This Halloween will be once in a blue moon
You might know the expression “once in a blue moon” that refers to a rare occurrence because the natural phenomenon known as the blue moon only occurs once in a generation. It just so happens this Halloween will be once in a blue moon literally as the night will be lit with a full moon.
A blue moon is a rare natural occurrence of experiencing two full moons within one calendar month and the first full moon in October occurred on Oct. 1-2 during the Harvest Moon. The Farmers’ Almanac indicates that a blue moon happens every 2-3 years but a blue moon hasn’t been historically recorded to happen on Halloween since 1944.
The blue moon will reach the brightest point at 10:49 a.m. EST in the U.S. and it should be visible Halloween morning. During the blue moon, Mars will be visible at the same time that can give a red hue to the moon.
ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. 🌕
Just in time for Halloween, a full moon will occur on Saturday, October 31!
The phrase 'blue moon' has nothing to do with the moon's actual color, although a blue tinge can be observed depending on certain atmospheric conditions, according to PAGASA. pic.twitter.com/ZhAcJK7Tvi
