A 10-year-old girl in Shakopee, Minnesota just got the best birthday ever thanks to the Internet.
When no one from Mackenzie Moretter’s fourth grade class RSVP’d to her birthday party, her mom, Jenny, decided to ask other moms on Facebook to wish her a happy birthday. She ended up getting a whole lot more: a whole party with hundreds of guests.
Mackenzie was born with Sotos syndrome, a genetic disorder that delays speech and learning, making socialization extremely difficult for her. According to FOX 9 News, other kids “seem to like Mackenzie, they just don’t socialize with her.”
Jenny Moretter’s post on Facebook quickly went viral, with several people not only wishing Mackenzie a happy birthday, but also offering to come to her party. A PR professional offered to move the party to a local park and set up a Facebook event page.
“I’m overwhelmed with emotions, my heart has been touched by so many stories similar to mine or just people wishing her a Happy Birthday. I will never be able to thank you all enough for your kindness,” Mackenzie’s mom wrote on the event page on Facebook.

Jenny Moretter told FOX 9 News that guests don’t have to bring gifts, but judging by the photos on Facebook, people couldn’t help but bring something extra for the birthday girl.
More than 650 people replied as “going” to Mackenzie’s event, which was held on Saturday, Apr. 18. On the day, there was a “Happy Birthday” banner, plenty of food, new friends, lots of presents and a Frozen-themed cake.
