It's time: Team USA challenges Team Japan to giant robot duel
Forget football, a real sport has arrived.
American company MegaBots Inc has thrown down the gauntlet to Japanese robotics manufacturer, Suidobashi Heavy Industry, and challenged it to a giant robot duel.
Suidobashi may have Kuratas, a highly-impressive, human-piloted fighting machine, but MegaBots Inc has the Mark II, “12,000 pounds of gasoline-powered fury,” with really big paintball guns. In one year, Megabots Inc wants to find out which robot will reign supreme.
The founders of MegaBots Inc, Andrew Stroup, Gui Cavalcanti and Matt Oehrlein, told Vice in 2014 they wanted to start a new sport: Immense humanoid robots driven by humans, battling it out in front of a stadium audience. It looks like that moment may have arrived.
As they say, “You have a giant robot, we have a giant robot. You know what needs to happen.”
