Karthik Nemmani Spells “Koinonia” To Clutch Victory

We here at DailyMulligan had no idea what a “koinonia” was (its pronounced koi-no-NEE-ya… I think), but 14 year old Karthik Nemmani from Texas had studied the Greek-rooted word and was completely prepared when it was his final obstacle to spell in order to win the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Nemmani previously came in second place during his county spelling bee, but still applied for the nationals as a “wild card” applicant.

Some people might be left wondering what “koinonia” actually means (“a christian fellowship”), but I’m left wondering what Nemmani is going to do with the 40,000 dollars he took home in cash for winning. In an interview with Good Morning America, Nemmani said that when he heard the final word, he knew exactly how to spell it.

In order to take home the win, one must spell two words correctly in a row. I don’t even wanna know what the other word he had to spell was, I just want to congratulate him on spelling a word I never even knew existed.
