Kim Kardashian Is Working On Partnerships To Help Ex-Cons
Reality star and recently turned activist Kim Kardashian West made her way back to the White House to promote efforts to help those leaving prison return to the workforce. At her unannounced appearance at an event to promote the hiring of ex-prisoners, President Donald Trump introduced the Hollywood star after making his remarks, and West stood tall as she spoke out about criminal justice reform, saying “I wanted to make a difference and just wanted to do the right thing, but I didn’t know how.”
West introduced her idea for a new ride-sharing program with Lyft that will provide former prisoners with gift cards to use for transportation to job interviews, work and to visit family.
In a tweet, West wrote “Proud to partner on this initiative with @Lyft, a company with a history of taking bold action to do what’s right for our community. Thank you for providing rideshare credits to formally incarcerated people when they come home.”
At her appearance at the White House, West expanded on her idea, saying that the goal is to keep everyone in the community safe, and part of doing so would be to give more opportunity to ex-prisoners and support them.
Prior to this, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star met with the president to talk further about criminal justice reform issues. She even successfully lobbied to pardon Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving life without parole for drug offenses.
