Lana Del Rey has released a new song titled “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing To A Women Like Me To Have- But I Have It,” and is described as a fan track. In the song, Del Rey meditates on religion, family, alienation and the myths that surround celebrity.
“I was reading Slim Aarons and I got to thinking that I thought/Maybe if I’d get less stressed if I was tested less like/All of these debutantes,” she sings over dramatic piano chords. “Smiling for miles in pink dresses and high heels on white yachts/But I’m not, baby, I’m not/No, I’m not that; I’m not.”
The vocalist is expected to release a new album later this year. Lana first announced the song last week, along with announcing that she would be canceling a few upcoming shows.
“I wish I could fulfill those obligations but I won’t be able to,” Del Rey said in an Instagram update that has since been deleted.
The new album will feature contributions from Lorde and St. Vincent collaborator Jack Antonoff. The Bleachers front man also produced and co-wrote “Norman Fucking Rockwell” “fan single” releases “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “Venice Bitch.”
In other news, Del Rey is set to headline the 2019 Buku Music + Art Project, which takes place March 22 and 23 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
