Marvel Diversifies For New Super Hero
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting a whole lot bigger and a lot more diverse!
Marvel Studios recently hired “Short Term 12” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton to direct the upcoming Shang-Chi film, which will be the studio’s first superhero film featuring an Asian lead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Shang-Chi is a fictional character, often called the “Master of Kung Fu,” that first appeared in Marvel comics in 1973. Shang-Chi is a master of numerous unarmed and weaponry-based wushu styles, including the use of the gun, nunchaku, and jian. The character later joins the Avengers, gaining the power to create countless duplicates of himself.

A Shang-Chi’s film came to light in December. Cretton has already worked with Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson and is currently wrapping up production on a movie called “Just Mercy,” which stars Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.
For the upcoming movie, Marvel is supposedly set on casting a primarily Asian American and Asian cast for the film, with “Wonder Woman 1984” screenwriter Dave Callaham set to write the screenplay.
In other news, the studio is gearing up for some major releases this summer including “Avengers: Endgame” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
