Marvel Phase 4 Unveiled
At its Comic-Con panel Saturday in San Diego, Marvel made the official announcement for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The list includes the long-awaited “Black Widow,” “Eternals,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and a reboot of “Blade.”
The new slate of films will place a greater emphasis on female superheroes and people of color, bringing a fresh take to a Marvel world that is still adapting to life the OG “Avengers.”
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studio also teased the answer to one of the biggest lingering questions since the merger of Disney and Fox at the panel. Apparently, plans for X-Men and other Marvel superheroes are in the works.
Below is the anticipated schedule for the release of Marvel Phase 4 films:
• May 1, 2020: “Black Widow”
• Fall, 2020: “The Falcon and Winter Soldier”
• Nov. 6, 2020: “The Eternals”
• Feb. 12, 2021: “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”
• Spring, 2021: “WandaVision” Disney Plus series
• May 7, 2021: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”
• Spring, 2021: “Loki” Disney Plus series
• Summer, 2021: “What If…?”
• Fall, 2021: “Hawkeye”
• Nov. 5, 2021: “Thor 4: Love and Thunder”
The long-awaited Black Widow film is first up, and will Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz. The film is directed by Cate Shortland and will take place shortly after Captain America: Civil War, meaning that it will be a prequel to the more recent Avengers films.
And in another surprise announcement, Marvel revealed that they have cast Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and for the panel, Angeline Jolie, who will be starring in “The Eternals” even made an appearance.
