Disney+ To Feature New Original Marvel Series
The Vision and Scarlet Witch are officially getting their own show called “WandaVision,” but Marvel fans will only see it on Disney Plus. During an investor event in Los Angeles, the company revealed that the original actors Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise their roles for the new series.
Chairman and CEO, Robert A. Iger, unveiled a slew of long-awaited details for the anticipated launch. But more importantly, the streaming service is positioned to be a major competitor for streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon, and the studio is pouring everything it has into Disney Plus.
“WandaVision” is just one of many new spin-offs and original series coming to the streaming service as part of a way to offer an exclusive series for the Disney Plus streaming platform.
“WandaVision” is being run by one of the writers on the Captain Marvel film, and is one of four expected Marvel shows planned for Disney Plus, joining series that focus on Hawkeye, Loki and a team-ups between the Winter Soldier and Falcon.
For the Loki spinoff series, Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as the beloved sometimes villain/sometimes anti-hero. The series recently recruited Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron as showrunner.
Disney Plus will also see two new high-profile Star Wars series to the service, “The Mandalorian” and a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
