Japanese McDonald’s Brings Back Popular Menu Item

To celebrate 45 years of McDonald’s in Japan, the chain is bringing back one of its most popular and delicious-sounding menu items: The Bacon Potato Pie.

As reported by Rocket News 24, the Bacon Potato Pie was a classic McDonald’s pie — a crispy pocket of fried dough stuffed with a gelatinous filling.

But compared to the sweet sleeve of crispy fried dough that’s stuffed with apples and cinnamon in the U.S., Japan’s yummy pie stuffed with bacon, potato, and onion makes for a savory option.

The Bacon Potato Pie was a long-running item at Japanese McDonald’s from 1990 to 2002 but disappeared from McDonald’s menus for quite some time. Now it’s coming back as part of the 45th anniversary of McDonald’s Japan, officially being made available on menus on Oct. 12 and will cost 150 yen, or about $1.48.

Another delicious pie, which is only available until the end of this month, is the Hot Custard Apple Pie. The turnover-style pie features the iconic crispy-fried crust on the outside and a warm custard and cinnamon apple pie filling.

So if you’re planning a trip to Japan or are already in Japan, then perhaps stop by local Japanese McDonald’s to try one of their many delicious and interesting pies.
