Baby Sussex Archie’s Official Title Revealed
All the speculation has come to an end because baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s birth certificate confirms that the Duchess of Sussex is indeed a princess. Meghan Markle’s official occupation on the document is listed as “Princess of the United Kingdom.”
Many were left confused because Meghan’s title is styled as the Duchess of Sussex, but in fact, she has been a princess since the moment she married Prince Harry.
British peerage customs reports that a woman takes the title of her husband, meaning that Meghan is technically HRH Princess Henry of Wales. Officially she’s not a British princess by blood, calling her Princess Meghan would be incorrect.
But more than her title, Meghan’s baby confirmed something else – where Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was delivered. Weeks before the arrival of their first son, Prince Harry and Meghan issued a statement explaining their plans on keeping their child’s birth “private.”
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby,” the statement released by Buckingham Palace read.
The Buckingham Palace statement continues, “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
Baby Archie was born in early in the morning at Portland Hospital in London on May 6.
Congratulations to the happy family!
