The Iconic Video Game Is In Development For A Movie
It’s been more than two decades since the last movie was filmed, but finally, after all this time, another “Mortal Kombat” film is on the way, and it will be produced by New Line Cinema. Pre-production will start this month while the cameras are scheduled to start rolling in Adelaide, Australia on the Adelaide Studios’ Sound Stages later in the year.
According to South Australia Premier Steven Marshall, this “Mortal Kombat” movie will be the biggest film production in the state’s history.
Director James Wan, known for his work on “Aquaman, “ “The Conjuring” film and “Furious 7” will be producing the movie while Simon McQuiod will be making his feature directing debut. McQuiod has previous experience working with games and game-related projects, having directed a PS3 advertisement featuring several famous PlayStation characters several years back.
The screenplay is being written by Greg Russo (known for the upcoming “Highwaymen”).
The announcement of the movie comes on the heels of the game Mortal Kombat 11, which arrived last month. Moreover, the 25th anniversary of the first Mortal Kombat movie is coming up next year, so for any true fan of the game as well as the original film, this upcoming reboot is a big deal and a fitting time.
