Netflix brings ‘Invader Zim’ back for special movie

90’s babies rejoice because one of our most iconic TV shows is making a comeback on Netflix!

In a new Nickelodeon-on-Netflix comeback film titled “Enter the Florpus,” Zim and his arch-nemesis Dib will finally get some feature-length closure and one last hurrah into the unknown.

The sci-fi comedy is being directed by series creator Jhonen Vasquez. The hour-long movie begins with an introduction from a tall, muscular Dib, stylized to look like a jacked-up macho anime character.

Viewers then learn where the characters actually are at: Zim has disappeared from public view while Dib has spent that time obsessing over where Zim could be, stewing in his own filth. In the words of his cynical sister Gaz, Dib has grown “grosser… smellier,” and overweight. But once he realizes Zim is active again, Dib immediately gets fit and clean, and embarks on a mission to take down his enemy.

Nickelodeon pulled the plug on the Invader Zim in 2002, after just 27 half-hour episodes had been produced, but it remained an influential cult classic from then on. It was a kid’s TV series that took risks in crossing lines, packed full of dark comedy and sneering satire of complacent mainstream culture. And fans loved it.
