Get ready because the Royals are coming!
The US and UK trailers for the film adaption of the hit TV series “Downton Abbey” officially dropped Tuesday and already it has raked in more than 1.4 million views. The story, set in 1927, features the Crawley family preparing Downton for a visit from the King and Queen.
Although it is the same movie, both the UK and US trailer are different in order to target a specific audience and interest. The British version, released by Universal Pictures UK’s account, includes a lot of dialogue and a quicker pace.
On the other hand, the Focus Features trailer, targeted at American audiences, has little dialogue and instead features more meandering shots of fine furnishings and even teases a gay romance – Thomas Barrow (Rob James-Collier) is seen dancing and smooching another man.
People have long been excitedly waiting for the project to be completed ever since Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, posted a photo from the film set back in September, captioning it, “And…we’re off.”
“Downton Abbey” was written by series creator Julian Fellowes, who is also producing. Additionally, almost all of the beloved TV show’s cast will be reunited in the film, with the exception of Lily James, who played Lady Rose.
However, Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton, who is married in real life to Jim Carter, the actor that plays Mr. Carson on the show and in the film, has been cast.
Are you excited? The film hits American theaters Sept. 20, while the movie releases in the UK on Sept. 13.
