New Software To Crack Down On People Sharing Netflix Accounts

Do you or someone in your family share a Netflix account? If so, change may be coming very soon because software specialist Synamedia is boasting a new technology that it says can track down users who share accounts and passwords for streaming services.

The U.K. based firm unveiled the new system at Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in Las Vegas, and says that the technology will be able to detect and shut down large-scale, for-profit credentials sharing accounts run by fraudulent users.

“It uses AI, machine learning and behavioral analytics to identify, monitor and analyze credentials sharing activity across consumer accounts,” the company said in a statement. “It allows operators to turn casual sharing into incremental revenue, as well as detect and apply enforcement procedures on fraudulent, for-profit credentials sharing accounts.”

Because account sharing would result in revenue losses for pay-TV over the next few years, Jean Marc Racine, CPO of Synamedia aims to “gives operators the ability to take action.”

“Casual credentials sharing is becoming too expensive to ignore,” Racine said. “Our new solution gives operators the ability to take action. Many casual users will be happy to pay an additional fee for a premium, shared service with a greater number of concurrent users.”
