Nursing Home Offers Fun Summer Activity For Patients

It is a very hot summer this year, and everybody of every age wants to escape the heat. In a fun and creative way for its senior residents, an Ohio assisted living facility created a custom slip ‘n slide after residents asked for one.

The assisted living facility, called Oaks at Northpointe, has about 30 residents who are in their 80s and 90s.

The staff set up the slip ‘n slide on June 7 and took video footage of the sweet and fun outing, and since being posted on social media, many have taken to sharing and praising the senior facility for loving and creating a positive environment for its residents. In fact, the video has been viewed more than 8 million times and has more than 122,804 shares.

“All the residents loved it!” says Jackie Altier, 35, the executive director of Oaks at Northpointe, said in an interview with PEOPLE. “They said that the slip-and-slide event brought back their childhood. They said it reminded them of the good times that they used to have with their families and their kids, and when they were kids. They had a blast.”

Back in winter, the staff held a sledding event in February.
