Getting the gang back together in Pawnee
The half-hour revival will see Leslie Knope and all her friends deal with the struggles of social distancing and the coronavirus. Fans of the beloved NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation” are buzzing and excited because the show will return for a scripted special to raise money for coronavirus charities.
Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Retta, and Jim O’Heir are all coming back, and some of the series’ guest stars will also make a return appearance. Helmed by series creator Michael Schur, the special episode will see Leslie Knope in her usual civil servant role struggling with social distancing.
Show creator Shur shared that he sent a hopeful email to the cast and “[T]hey all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old Parks and Rec team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life and we hope everyone enjoys it.”
The money raised from the broadcast will go towards Feeding America’s Covid-19 Response Fund. “Parks and Recreation” originally ran on MBC and ran from 2009 to 2015 and focused on the adventures and life of employees working for local government in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana.
In the show, Leslie Knope was a dedicated, enthusiastic and compassionate government employee, and Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, NBC’s co-presidents of scripted programming said that because of Poehler’s character, “In such uncertain times, we can’t think of anyone better than Leslie Knope to unite our country…”
The special reunion episode will air on April 30th.
