“Play this at my funeral” is a line you’ve probably seen in the comments section of a YouTube video or two.
Or maybe you’ve seen it on Twitter. Wherever you see it though, it’s often written jokingly alongside a piece of music that wouldn’t be appropriate to play around a whole bunch of crying people.
Admittedly, the reference made for a pretty good piece of advertising by streaming service, Spotify, who released a commercial back in February. It featured Joe Jonas, commenting how “messed up” it would be to hear DCNE’s song “Body Moves” during a funeral. Fair, but also funny.
And because the internet has a weird sense of humour, this ad has gone on to become a whole new, ridiculous meme.
Take this version which features a mashup of the Thomas the Tank Engine theme with Biggie Smalls, which is pretty freakin’ hilarious.
Or this low-quality cover of Smash Mouth with a Minecraft-related rap over it.
Then there’s this “Shooting Stars” and “Never Gonna Give You Up” hybrid.
And then there’s this one which plays “play this at my funeral” at the funeral.
Certainly puts the FUN back into funeral, if you ask us.
