Does Pokémon Go have to go? For one Indiana County, “Pokémon Go” has caused chaos while people are trying to catch ’em all. Not only have their been increases in damages financially, but also an increase in injuries due to playing the illusive game.
Two economists at Purdue University concluded that there was a 47% increase in accidents, two fatalities and $500,000 in damages in ONE Indiana county. Mara Faccio and John McConnell applied their findings to a nation-wide platform, and concluded that the estimate levels yield a total ranging from $2 to $7.3 billion for the same period.
“Regardless of whether that number is included, the incremental cost of users playing Pokémon GO while driving is significant,” the two said in their findings.
Perhaps as a response to some of the backlash, the developer of the game, Niantic, updated the game in 2016 so there would be restrictions while driving. If you are exceeding a certain speed, you can no longer catch ’em and drive.
