Politician trumpets his vision for Australia at a pub, and the crowd goes wild

On Saturday night, Australia’s Opposition leader Bill Shorten made an impassioned speech to supporters in a Sydney watering hole. Labor supporter, Tim Van Der Laan, posted the show stopper to his Facebook account.

To loud cheers of “We love you, Bill!” and “We want Bill,” Shorten stood in the middle of the boozy crowd and spoke of the country he envisaged — from marriage equality to affordable education.

“One day I hope that you belong in a country where marriage equality is legitimate,” he said. “Where our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are on the national birth certificate in the constitution.”

The crowd goes ballistic.

“Where people can organise to have a strong minimum wage and they will not be sucked into a royal commission, where we will have a Medicare system that is defined by your Medicare card not your credit card, where you can go to university and not pay $100,000.”

The crowd totally loses their minds.

“We will have a country where women are treated equally and we will have a country where we are known for our commitment to multi-culturalism and where no matter who you are and who your parents are, this is a country with a fair go where you can get ahead based upon on how hard you work and how much you care about your fellow Australians.”

The crowd is on verge of a breakdown.
