‘The name is Madden, Richard Madden.’
It has been reported that the next James Bond, following Daniel Craig’s long-running stint as 007, could be Scottish actor Richard Madden. Madden, best known for his role on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” as Robb Stark, is reportedly close to being offered the role of the British Secret Service agent.
The 32-year-old actor reportedly impressed producers with his performance in the BBC drama series “Bodyguard,” and is now being strongly considered to replace Craig once his contract is up.
There has been quite some buzz about the Bond series and the upcoming “Bond 25,” which will be Craig’s fifth and final outing as the British spy. There was much speculation and excitement as many fans hoped that former-Superman Henry Cavill would take the baton as Bond from Craig following “Bond 25.”
Some even got their hopes that the Bond series would follow in the footsteps of “Doctor Who” — which has introduced its first female Doctor ever — but Bond producer Barbara Broccoli stated that Bond will continue to be a male character.
Many fans even hoped and called for Idris Elba to be the next Bond, which would have made him the first actor to portray the spy as a person of color. However, Elba has denied rumors he will be replacing Craig.
While Broccoli, the executive producer at Eon Productions will have the final say on who will become the next Bond, rumors are that she is preparing to offer Madden the role. However, there is no solid evidence as of yet.
As for Madden, he has been busy since “Game of Thrones,” playing Cosimo de’ Medici in the historical drama “Medici: Masters of Florence,” as well as Leo West in the Netflix rom-com “Ibiza.” His latest stint has been a huge buzz as he will play music manager John Reid in the forthcoming Elton John biopic, “Rocketman.”
