Selena Gomez cries on stage while remembering Christina Grimmie

Selena Gomez broke down on stage Saturday night following the death of her friend, Christina Grimmie, who fatally shot after her concert on Friday night.

Grimme and Gomez go way back — Gomez’ stepfather, Brian Teefy, discovered Grimmie on YouTube while she was in high school and worked as her manager ever since. Grimmie opened for Gomez’s Stars Dance tour in 2013.

Gomez had to take a moment to collect herself while performing “Nothing” and mouthed the words, “I’m sorry.

“When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her. One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her,” said Gomez, who was performing on the Miami stop of the Revival tour. “And I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about anything or good deeds. It’s just that she had faith.”

“I don’t really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this next song to her,” Gomez continued before singing “Transfiguration.”

After the news broke, Gomez tweeted a photo herself goofing around with Grimmie.

Gomez also shared a link to a Go Fund Me page supporting Christina’s family with a message from Teefy, who called Grimmie a “second daughter.”

“As family Mother, Father, and Brother made the ultimate family sacrifice to support Christina on her musical journey,” he wrote. “They did nothing but love her and support her as family the best they knew how, the only worry I want them to have at this point is that of recovery.”
