The Great British Baking Show returns to Netflix this weekend

Prepare your couches (and maybe a tray of freshly baked cookies and cakes) because “The Great British Baking Show” is returning to Netflix this weekend!

Viewing will be a little different this year for American fans. Historically, the show premieres during the summer in the U.K., then makes its way across the pond a few months later in one binge-able package.

According to the series’ Netflix page, episodes from Collection 7 of the beloved baking competition will be released on Friday, Aug. 30. But very important to note, the page says a “new episode” is coming Friday, which seems to imply that, for the first time, episodes will be released on a weekly basis, after they air on Channel 4 in the U.K.

The shift will likely help dedicated fans avoid online spoilers from their U.K. counterparts.

The series is known in the U.K. as “The Great British Bake-Off” and features 12 amateur bakers facing off in a variety of baking tasks set by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

Netflix’s relationship with Channel 4 and Love Productions has allowed the more recent seasons of the show to debut stateside as a Netflix Original. Prior to 2017, the show ran on the BBC with hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc and British baking icon Mary Berry serving as host with Paul Hollywood, and the episodes premiered in the U.S. on PBS.
