The holiday sandwich will be returning to McDonalds
The McDonald’s cult classic BBQ sandwich the McRib is making its return for the first time nationwide since 2012. McDonald’s decided to bring back the McRib after years of high demand from McRib super fans.
The McRib appeared nearly 40 years ago on the McDonald’s menu and is synonymous with being a seasonal addition to the menu during the colder months. This year will be a big one for McRib as this BBQ sandwich was only offered in certain regional locations but the McRib will be available in all U.S. locations.

McDonald’s created the McRib in 1982 after the first McDonald’s executive chef who invented the McNugget, Rene Arend, after eating a pulled pork sandwich while travelling through Charleston, South Carolina. After the initial success, the popularity faded and McDonald’s started offering the McRib as a limited-time promotional menu item.
McDonald’s featured “farewell promotions” for the McRib in 2005, 2006, and 2007. McDonald’s started offering the McRib as a limited-time promotion menu item several years following.

For the last couple of years, the McRib was available in certain regions and McDonald’s created the McRib tracker so customers can see if the BBQ sandwich was available near them. This year McRib fans won’t need the tracker because the McRib will be available nationwide starting December 2.
