As Emma starts to lose hope fighting against the conservative community, a group of Broadway stars (played by Meryl, Kidman, Cordon, and Andrew Rannells) decides to become the defending allies for Emma. Keegan-Michael Key plays Mr. Hawkins who is Emma’s teacher that supports his student and Kerry Washington played Mrs. Greene who is the conservative PTA president that happens to be Alyssa’s unsupportive mom.
Murphy explains that he’s loved the production level of Broadway and wants to deliver a spectacular production to celebrate the holiday season. Within a month, Ryan Murphy went to see the Broadway play and getting the film adaptation greenlit.
Shortly after Murphy reached out to the lead cast confirming Corden, Kidman, Streep, and Washington. For the casting of Emma and Alyssa, Murphy conducted a nationwide search until finding Pellman and DeBose to complete the lead cast.
Murphy along with the whole cast is excited to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating a traditional yet modern movie rendition of the Broadway hit. Though the Broadway musical won’t reopen until summer 2021 but the Netflix movie is set to debut on December 11.
