I’ve never owned an instant Polaroid camera. Had plenty of cruddy toy ones when I was a kid, but the real ones were too expensive, and I probably would’ve dropped them in the toilet anyway. Just as well, since I prefer digital cameras. It is kind of weird, though, to see kids react to something I knew and recognized at their age with complete confusion.
I suppose it is kind of weird if you live in an age of digital media to receive a physical photograph right after taking it. These kids seem so surprised to see this camera flashing and churning the photo out. Amusingly, though, even if they no nothing about the cameras, they do still know to shake Polaroid pictures.
Must be one of those vicarious culture things. Good work, Andre 3000; thanks to you, nobody will ever not know what to do with a Polaroid picture. I have to give special kudos to kid who actually knew what a Polaroid was because he’s seen Stranger Things. That’s tangential learning, right there. TV can teach you things. You know, sometimes.
