This dude bucked gender stereotypes by auditioning to be a Miami Heat dancer
Keith Wilson was ready to bring his A-game to this year’s Miami Heat dancer auditions in Florida — even if he was the only male competitor out of 200 participants.
The 28-year-old choreographer and dance teacher at Exclusive Vibes Contemporary Dance Theatre first auditioned for the award-winning dance team back in 2012, and came back this year to flaunt his moves. Though the Miami Heat has never had a male dancer, men are technically still allowed to audition.
Wilson channeled his inner Beyoncé while free-styling to “Run the World (Girls),” finishing his routine with some killer splits.
Wilson advanced to the four-day bootcamp, but he was ultimately not chosen to move on to the finals. However, he isn’t going to let that get him down.
“Dance and that’s it. It has no gender, no sexuality. It’s just dance, and it’s art,” Wilson tells Local 10 News. “Never let anyone tell you you can’t do something because of this or that, never let anyone tell you you’re not good enough, or you’re not small enough or you’re not fit enough; it should always be, ‘go for it.’”
You go, Keith. Hopefully we’ll see you shaking your stuff on the Miami Heat dance team sooner rather than later.
