The ongoing debate as to whether a tomato is classified as a fruit or a vegetable can finally be put to rest. Whether you took the fruit stance or the the vegetable stance, you are right either way. Tomatoes are indeed both. Botanically speaking, because they contain seeds, tomatoes are technically considered a fruit. However, in 1893 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a tomato was a vegetable based on how it’s used in the kitchen. So there you have it. And hopefully you can sleep a little better knowing that the great debate has been settled.
