UK Artist Jump-Starts Career With Record-Breaking Knitting Needles

The fun thing about leafing through a book of world records is stumbling upon those entries that make you think “wait, there’s a record for that?” The record for “World’s Fastest Furniture” immediately springs to mind, for example. Or, more relevantly, the record for “World’s Largest Knitting Needles.”

United Kingdom-based artist Betsy Bond broke the Guinness World Record for “World’s Largest Knitting Needles” by crafting two gigantic 14-feet long knitting needles. Bond crafted these partially to give herself a bit of artistic inspiration, and partially to attract attention to herself in an effort to launch her art career in earnest. Bond said as happy as she was to simply create the needles, she couldn’t help but feel some pride at seeing people stop and stare at something that she had created.

Oh, and if you were wondering, yes, you can actually knit with these things. You just need really big yarn, and it kind of takes forever. They do make nice, big quilts, though.
