Brazil Allows US Citizens To Visit Without Needing A Passport
Before, U.S. citizens had to pay about $40 to obtain a Brazilian visa, but starting June 17, that will no longer be the case. The Brazilian government announced that travelers from the United States, Australia, Japan, and Canada will no longer need a visa to enter the country of Brazil.
Travelers arriving before that date must still obtain an electronic visa. The new visa exemption rule allows visitors to stay in the country for 90 days from the date of their first entry and request an extension to 180 days within a 12-month period.
This new visa exemption is part of an ongoing effort on the Brazilian government’s part to ease up on its visa policy in recent years. Last January, the eVisa was introduced, which allowed Americans, Japanese, Australians, and Canadians to apply for the document online instead of having to take a trip down to the Brazilian consulate.
The government hopes the initiative will improve tourism to the country.
If you’re traveling to Brazil anytime soon, this will give you the opportunity and time to really explore the country. There are lots to do such as go surfing with dolphins, explore its wine country, and see the region’s rain forests.
