“Supernatural” star to lead in “Walker, Texas Ranger” reboot
“Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki is set to headline and executive produce a reimagining of CBS’ long-running 1990s action/crime series “Walker, Texas Ranger.” The project, which is being written and executive produced by Anna Fricke (Valor) and executive produced by Dan Lin (Lethal Weapon) and Dan Spilo (Sunnyside).
The series reimagining will focus on Walker as he returns from years undercover. A widower and father of two, he will fight crime with a new partner – the only female Ranger in history. If everything is green lit, Padalecki would smoothly transition off of “Supernatural,” which is set to air its 15th and final season on The CW this year.
The original “Walker” series ran for nearly 200 episodes over nine seasons on CBS. Chuck Norris starred as the titular lawman as he and his partner (Gilyard Jr.) fought crime all around Texas.
Padalecki is a leading contender for the main role as he is a Texas native.
No network is attached as of yet, according to reports, but aside from CBS possibly shopping, The CW could also make a likely home for the series given Padalecki’s longstanding ties with the network and relationship with president Mark Pedowitz.
Pedowitz has shared many times before that The CW is always wide open for the creative team and talent of “Supernatural” to return anytime, so we could possibly see Padalecki back in action in a brand-new role sooner than we thought.
