Japan celebrates Yokohama with unique Kit Kat flavor
With Nestle Japan, the creative team is always cranking away at constantly looking for new and exciting ways to add to their extensive range of unique Kit-Kats.
One of the brand’s most popular collections is the “Gotochi” (“Local”) series, which captures the flavors of local specialties in a delicious chocolate-covered wafer. Hiroshima is honored with a maple-leaf-shaped manju cake KitKat while Yamanashi is honored with a shingen mochi rice dessert variety.
The newest addition to the collection is the new chestnut-flavored Kit-Kat. The pack of nine are sold in cute carry boxes featuring a wave design and images of a sailor’s hat and a streamer-lined cruise ship, all of which is meant to capture the spirit of Yokohama.
The cruise ship will be a familiar sight for many Japanese as it is also the same image that is used on a well-known local sweet souvenir made by famed sweet company Ariake. The Ariake Yokohama Harbor Double Marron is a chestnut cake shaped like a ship to honor the port city while the image of the cruise ship honors the largest ocean liner in the world, the RMS Queen Mary 2.
One cool thing about this new Kit-Kat release is the fact that chestnut-flavored goods increase in popularity during autumn, so it is the perfect time for the new flavor’s release.
The new Kit-Kats will appear at souvenir stores around Kanagawa Prefecture from Sept. 11.
