Prudence Staite, a food artist from Gloucestershire, U.K., has defied the laws of dairy this festive season and hand crafted the Biblical Nativity scene using 40 kilograms of cheddar. Yes, cheddar. Complete with two donkeys, two sheep, a cow and Three Wise Men carrying Branston Pickle gifts for the baby Cheesus, Staite’s Nativity scene is a masterpiece of cocktail sticks and carving that took five days to make in total.
Mary and Joseph are also in the stable with their newly ripened Cheesus, whose tiny crib is so intricate it even features shaved cheese straw. But, according to Staite, all the figures were equally tricky to make as the detail on their faces was so small. Her solution: A tiny magnifying glass.
