The mission was simple. Buy the best replicas on offer, then compare each one with the genuine product and score it from 1 to 10. The haul covered sneakers, a smartwatch, a water bottle, and a fragrance.
Some fakes were shockingly good. A replica of a Nike Nocta Mind concept shoe earned a perfect 10, and one blindfolded guess at which pair was real turned out wrong.
An Owala bottle copy scored a 7, held back mainly by a noticeably shorter straw. An expensive fragrance looked identical to the original, but the scent was a completely different story. Visually a 10 and practically a 1, it settled at a 5.
Other fakes fell apart under close inspection. Two pairs of Vans scored a 4 and a 6 because of weak distressing and mismatched details. The fake Apple Watch Ultra booted into a working operating system and looked convincing, yet earned just a 1 for function.
