Amazon Makes Goal For Faster Delivery For Prime Members
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, there has been a new change to its shipping policy, but it’s probably one to get you excited and ready to shop more often. Upping the ante for the retail industry once again, the company has announced that it will be transitioning its signature two-day free shipping for Prime members into one-day free shipping.
Brian Olsavsky, Amazon’s chief financial officer, calls the move a “big investment” because Amazon is set to spend around $800 million in the second quarter alone — more than one-fifth of its net income in the first quarter — on the new initiative.
Part of the Q2 will be improving warehouses and delivery infrastructures. Additionally, in the past month alone, Amazon has “significantly” expanded the selection of products and zip codes that are eligible for one-day shipping.
Apart from the one-day shipping, Amazon will still retain its same-day and one- or two-hour shipping for available and applicable items.
Moving from two-day to one-day shipping is not only about increased convenience, but for opening up potential purchases, according to Olsavsky.
The move comes as traditional retail giants, including Walmart, Target and Best Buy, are upping their game and capitalizing on their bigger physical-store footprints.
