Celebrate Mean Girls Day By Wearing Pink

For many teen rom-com fans, October 3 can mean only one thing — Mean Girls Day, and it is extra special this year as it falls on a Wednesday, a day reserved for wearing pink by the film’s “popular” group, the Plastics.

As member of the Plastics, Karen Smith, advises, “On Wednesdays we wear pink.”

The day has been celebrated since the film’s release in 2004 in reference to one of its most iconic lines: “On October 3, he asked me what day it was…”which describes the moment Cady’s crush, Aaron, turns around to talk to her in class.

Every time the date rolls around each year, fans take to social media to commemorate the iconic Mean Girls moment and celebrate the popular high school film.

For those who still don’t know about “Mean Girls” is an American teen comedy that was released in 2004 and was written by comedian and presenter Tina Fey. The film is based on Rosalind Wiseman’s non-fiction self-help book “Queen Bees and Wannabes,” which addresses the topic of high school cliques.

Teenage Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan), who was educated in Africa by her scientist parents, moves to the suburbs of Illinois. Attending an American school is not what Cady expects, but she quickly finds herself in A-list girl clique, The Plastics. Trouble starts to brew when it becomes known that she has a crush on Aaron Samuels, who is the ex-boyfriend of “Queen Bee” Regina, played by Rachel McAdams.

The movie became so popular that it is now considered a teenage classic. In fact, Mean Girls is now a musical with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. The musical is based on the 2004 film of the same name written by Fey, and is currently playing at the August Wilson Theatre in New York.
